Accelerating Growth Beyond Borders

About the program

The business landscape that Canadian firms have known and relied upon for decades is changing rapidly and creating significant uncertainty. A new era of global trade and investment is emerging. Canadian leaders and business owners are quickly recognizing the need to manage the increased uncertainty by taking steps to diversify their firms, enhance their international presence, and grow both their global base of customers and their supply chains. Fortunately, Canada’s brand name in product and service markets worldwide is already strong and Canada is a signatory to trade deals that have opened the door to substantial growth opportunities in regions such as Europe and the Indo-Pacific. However, Canadian firms of all shapes and sizes need to move quickly to revise their strategies and start growing into new markets.

This program has been designed to help business leaders, managers, and entrepreneurs to start thinking through the questions that they need to answer in order to pivot and accelerate their growth into new foreign markets.

In this program you will learn to:

  • Gain an appreciation for how companies that are growing into new foreign markets approach strategic decision-making
  • Discover the issues, opportunities and problems faced by leaders, managers, and business owners tasked with the responsibility of formulating and executing strategies for their companies to grow globally
  • Acquire insights into the internal and external factors that influence the analysis, development, and implementation of strategies for growth into new foreign markets
  • Evaluate the market entry strategies through which corporations engage in foreign growth, as well as reflecting on considerations pertaining to the choice of target foreign markets
  • Consider the benefits and risks of embarking upon collaborative corporate relationships in an international context
  • Deepen your awareness of the strategic, operational, organizational, structural, and legal decisions and challenges encountered by firms as they grow into new foreign markets
  • Incorporate frameworks and tools that can be used to help address the questions that your firm needs to answer in order to confront the challenges and embrace the opportunities associated with efforts to grow globally
